I am a dual citizen of the United States and the Netherlands, so I’ve always had a keen interest in strengthening the transatlantic relationship. As an international politics major, I focused my studies at Georgetown on European Union law and politics. Pursuing a German minor was the perfect complement to my academic and professional interests. In addition to developing advanced German language skills and passing my SFS proficiency exam, I loved learning about the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German business world, and literature and film from across the German-speaking world. Additionally, studying abroad in Trier in the summer of 2022 helped me apply what I learned in the classroom to the real world. Together, my experiences with the German department inspired me to pursue the CBYX fellowship in Germany after graduation, where I’ll study law and politics at a German university and hopefully complete an internship with the German government. Vielen Dank für alles!
