Since my arrival on the Hilltop, my Georgetown experience has been centered around the German Department. Studying German has meant taking a variety of interesting courses pertaining to subjects ranging from business to the Tatort television series. Learning about these and a myriad of other topics from the amazing faculty has helped me garner a deeper understanding of German society and culture while also contributing to my knowledge of the language. Yet, the impact of the German Department on my Georgetown experience has reached far beyond the classroom. One of my most memorable experiences at Georgetown was the Trier program, which offered me the long-awaited opportunity to study abroad. Participating in this program not only enhanced my language skills and cultural competencies, but also enabled me to get to know the Georgetown students and faculty on the program. More broadly, interacting with my peers and professors in the Department has fostered connections and friendships that I hope to maintain long after my time on the Hilltop.

In short, German has not just been my major; it has been the key to a community, the German Department community, of which I am so glad to have been a part. I hope to continue engaging with this community moving forward.
