Coming to Georgetown as an undergraduate, I was certain I’d explore German studies, but I never imagined I’d graduate six years later with both a B.A. and an M.A. in German. From my first class, Professor Banchoff’s Intensive Basic course, during my freshman spring, I felt an unmistakable connection to the GUGD. The department’s warm atmosphere, fostered by students, staff, and faculty alike, encouraged me to shift from a minor to a major in German. The relationships I’ve cultivated here have eased my transition from undergraduate to graduate studies, providing support and motivation throughout my achievements and the hurdles I faced.

I’ll truly miss encouraging everyone I know to join Professor Kick’s courses, chatting with Courtney every time I stepped foot in the department, sharing laughs with the student assistants and my fellow grad students, and the deep connections I’ve made with every professor. As I look ahead, I plan to stay near D.C., aiming for a career in sports with a focus on international relations and community outreach. I am profoundly grateful to everyone at GUGD for making my Georgetown experience so memorable.
