A Summer to Remember: Georgetown-in-Trier 2024
From June 1 to July 6, 2024, 16 students from Georgetown University and partner institutions traveled to Trier, Germany, for the annual Georgetown-in-Trier summer study abroad program. Situated at the University of Trier, the program combined academic rigor with cultural exploration to provide an unforgettable experience.
Led by Prof. Joe Cunningham, who debuted a new Level V course, Alle Wege führen nach Trier, the program offered a diverse academic curriculum. Doctoral students Katie Miller-Purrenhage and Emma Eisenbeis assisted with the program as instructors and cultural guides, providing valuable support to the students during their five-week stay. Also joining the program this year as instructor and guide was Harry AbdulSattar, former exchange student from the University of Trier and dear friend of the German Department.
Beyond the classroom, participants took part in a variety of activities, including guided tours of Trier, excursions to cities like Luxembourg and Heidelberg, and visits to historical sites such as Eltz Castle. The homestay arrangement with local host families was once again a great success, offering students the chance to practice German in everyday settings while gaining insights into German culture.
Looking ahead, the next Georgetown-in-Trier summer program is set to take place from June 7 to July 12, 2025. Applications can be found online with the Office of Global Education and are due by February 15, 2025.
