Alexander Schimmelbusch was born in Frankfurt, grew up in New York, and majored in German and Econ at Georgetown University. He has written five novels, the latest being “Karma”, published by Rowohlt Verlag in Hamburg in 2024. His second novel “Blut im Wasser”, published in 2009 and just reissued by Rowohlt, is partly set on the Georgetown Campus. He works as a journalist for a variety of German publications, among them Die Zeit, Der Spiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In 2020, he was awarded the Rome Prize of the German Academy. Alexander lives in Berlin.
Mr. Schimmelbusch will teach the graduate course GERM 5590 The Birth of Alternative Facts: Peter Handke’s Nonfiction during the Spring 2026 semester.
