Katherine Miller-Purrenhage

Katie is a PhD candidate in the Department of German Studies. She received a BA magna cum laude from Kalamazoo College, studying German (Honors), Music, and Philosophy. Following her BA, she received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Bamberg, Germany. At Georgetown, she conducts research in contemporary Black German literature and culture. Her dissertation uses Black feminist theory to analyze how works of literature and culture function as their own forms of knowledge production. Katie has taught German courses at Georgetown ranging from beginning to advanced levels, including an intensive course in the Georgetown Trier Study Abroad program. She served as the graduate steering committee member for the Coalition for Women in German from 2023-2025 and is also affiliated with the German Studies Association, the American Association of Teachers of German, and the Genocide & Holocaust Crisis Studies Network.
