Looking Ahead to the Fall Semester

The German Department in collaboration with the English Department and the Fritz-Hüser-Institut für Literatur und Kultur der Arbeitswelt in Dortmund, Germany, will host an international conference that will bring together humanities scholars from Europe and the United States to explore how the humanities contribute to an understanding of the role of work in our world. “What’s Work? Humanistic Approaches to Understanding Work” will be held at the Humanities Initiative’s space in New North at Georgetown University on October 30-31, 2025.

Over two days, scholars will deeply engage with the meanings and consequences of work through interpretation of varied artifacts like narratives, novels, poems, films, sculpture and painting, photography, performance, and other artistic expressions.

Prof. Peter C. Pfeiffer is collaborating with Prof. Sherry Linkon from the English Department and Dr. Iuditha Balint from the Hüser Institute to conceptualize and organize this event with graduate student Emilia Endler assisting.
