Auf Wiedersehen!

A fond farewell from Prof. Astrid Weigert upon her retirement

With the end of this academic year comes the end of my 27-year career as a faculty member in the Department of German here at GU. If I include my years as a graduate student, I have spent a total of 34 years on the Hilltop! I leave my academic “home” with immense gratitude: for the many enduring relationships that I was able to form with my students; for the personal friendships and inspiring professional collaborations with my immediate colleagues and those from across campus. I am particularly grateful for the beautiful farewell reception hosted by my Department on April 22, 2026, which brought many of my “favorite people” together at the Wagner Alumni House. I was deeply moved by the kind words, gestures, and gifts that afternoon. It’s been a joy to teach at GU and I joyfully look forward to the next stage in my life.
