German Placement Exam – Incoming Students
The German Department offers an online placement exam over the summer for students who have German coursework experience but have never taken a German class at Georgetown.
Students with previous German language coursework should determine their preliminary placement by taking the German placement exam online (Three parts: C-test, Listening, and Reading) between July 5 and July 17. Placement according to the online placement exam result is by level. Please be sure to click “How to take the Placement Exam online” to be able to enroll in the exam.
After the exam period is over, the German Department will reach out to all students with course recommendations for the fall semester. We aim to contact everyone by July 21, prior to the start of new student registration.
Students with no German language experience should register for either GERM 1001 (3 credits, part 1 of Introductory German) or GERM 1011 (6 credits, parts 1 and 2 of Introductory German taught in one semester).
Please contact german@georgetown.edu if you have any questions!
